recovery time needed....

I needed some of that after Son #1 left town. He'd been here 10 days, and while the first few days were used in him adjusting to the time changes, we still had to pull him out and about town. Nothing says "i love you son" like being dragged off somewhere while you're jet lagged. Hey, time was limited here, and there was a lot to do and sample. Mostly food and drink. Singapore is known for shopping and eating. While Son #1  is a big shopper ( gets it from me I guess), there definitely is a lot to eat. Intro to Hawker stalls, stop #1. Here, try some Kopi C. Turns out the kid who doesn't like coffee enjoyed the kopi. Yes, It has a milder taste. So not Starbucks!!! And after we made him try chicken rice, carrot cake, pseudo Kway teow, it was time for culture!

First off....the Singapore flyer. Since  Son #1 had been on the London Eye, this was a MUST. Slightly taller but the same concept, we got to the downtown area as well as the Straits of Singapore. We could almost see Indonesia, if it weren't for the haze.

We headed to Marina Bay Art/Science Mueum for the exhibition - Art of the Block. this was done by a NY artist all in Legos. Son #1 wanted to be a Lego engineer when he was little, so I thought it might be fun. It was very impressive!

We also needed to do the "cheesy" things one does in Singapore, like go to Raffles Hotel and enjoy a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar. You must have one. Yes it's pricy ( S$28) but it has to be done!! We also took him to the top of Marina Bay Sands, 57 stories high. This was our first time up - since why would we go by ourselves? The view was lovely. We were lucky and had a clear night.

Singapore Slings in the Long Bar - the one on the right is really a Bramble.....just saying

We went to CHong Pang, which our near by giant hawker stalls and wet market. I think I covered all this before, so no need to go over it again. Sadly, we were so busy eating and drinking our Kopi C, we forgot to take pictures.
No try to Singapore would be good without a trip to Little India. The food, the sights, the smells. So fun. Son #1 tried his first fresh coconut chopped open with a  straw to get the water. Very refreshing in hot weather. But not as good as pressed sugarcane juice.

When we went to Chinatown ( and ate there)  I opted to try the juice. I expected it to be sickeningly sweet. I wasn't very sweet at all. Again, one of those things I've heard good for re hydration. While in Chinatown we did visit the Buddha Tooth temple. Up on the 4th floor is a meditation room with a relic from Buddha - his tooth. Not sure how they got it.....

Suddenly the week was nearing the end. We sent Son #1 out with some younger colleagues of hubby, and they took him "clubbing" at Clarke Quay and other hot spots downtown. This is stuff we know nothing about and were not equipped  to do. He was running a little slow the next day. Let's put that down to dehydration!...
